From the lakeside From the lakeside From the lakeside to my friend From her hand I caught a glimpse of the river's end The sea is dark For her hand For her hand on the river bend From the lakeside to my friend From her hand From the lakeside to my friend From her hand I caught a glimpse of another hand The sea is dark I'm waiting for it again For her hand For her hand on the river For her hand on the river

Taller 04:55
I've been here before Gratefully I can see it all But I can't feel at all Who's the man putting his heart to my ear Who is eight feet tall Before they feel this small Can I break in, in, in Can I break in, in, in How am I How am I How am I taller How am I How am I How am I taller What's the shame behind these tranquil rays It's not pain I passed From the house I left I've been here before Gratefully I can see it all But I can't feel at all No I can't feel at all Can I break in, in, in How am I How am I How am I taller Fear in life Out of spite How am I Taller I was born with this old mind And I told you to keep, keep my life

Mountaintop 05:19
Up on the mountaintop The whole damn world's all fucked up Where her head finds rest He held his final bated breath When you wait, wait and see What you'll find will be That it's gone, that it's gone, that it's all gone When you wait, wait with me What you'll find will be That it's gone, that it's gone, that the world is gone Down from the Mountaintop She's begging, begging, please don't stop Hands to her fragile chest Forget them, forget them, all the rest When you wait, wait and see What you'll find will be That it's gone, that it's gone, that it's all gone When you wait, wait with me What you'll find will be That it's gone, that it's gone, that the world is gone

Up on the limb I had more to see but I can't feel your hand And I can't extend my reach I yelled down to you to climb the tree instead without my help And you said back, "I tried" Now I am looking at the branch where I stand it's giving out, oh my Can you hear my lonely cry I could have saved a seed for you to grow and us to reap all night Where the willow tree died Well you always play the games Looks like you're off again, but your branches always break When on solid ground we stand You lean down and lend a hand and everything goes as you planned
6.
I'm here, by your side As we walk down to the river's edge Will you be my guide I'm with you I'm with you With our hands held high We reach out through the waters So far away from the others I'm with you I'm with you Your face up there The dappled sunlight in your hair Floating out through the warm air I'm with you I'm with you Fall down We sit and wait for the smoke to clear I guess it's been a difficult year
7.
Just get up and rise I already saw what's planned Let go of me now I have no need for your hand Don't open your eyes Forget all your childish fears Your footing is sound The further you are from here And when you're out on your own please take my advice Just leave your soul alone So many foreign homes are Standing on the shoreline All of the sons and daughters Wondering when it's their time On their faces you'll see looks of pleasure Cause they'll live forever They'll live forever With their arms and legs and feet together They'll live forever They'll live forever So many foreign homes are Standing on the shoreline All of the sons and daughters Wondering when it's their time On their faces you'll see looks of pleasure Cause they'll live forever They'll live forever With their arms and legs and feet together They'll live forever They'll live forever

You sat me down and told me We'd be alright You said we were the only Good guys That we carried the light In our aching bodies That we carried the light Down, down, down Down, down, down, down And the ashes fall On the children's faces On their names and races And here, at the end of time You will find us waiting On the seashore fading I asked you if you'd leave me You said you'd never go But you lie there still In your dying body Oh, you lie there still You might also like Down, down, down Down, down, down, down And the ashes fall On the children's faces On their names and races And here, at the end of time You will find us waiting On the seashore fading We're still trying We're still trying We're still trying We're still trying to live

Pillars 04:47
Gardens won’t grow A shelter from my company She holds so close Her heart within my custody This life we chose Permanently sacrifice My shape a mold A bedroom filled with mattress eyes Awake, awake my thoughts We’ve grown too tall We keep building up our walls While our pillars fall Awake my thoughts We’ve grown too tall We keep building up our walls While our pillars fall
11.
So here we are The redskull warriors We count our scars From the river's waters We drive for hours and hours and hours Only night Only night You'll find us poised So drunk and violent We're throwing stones To break your silence We're growing old we know we know Only night Only night Hear us roar Hear us sing The brightest fires The river kings Hear us roar Hear us sing The brightest fires The river kings

Perfect Home 05:04
You look at yourself in the bathroom mirror You take off your clothes so you can see yourself clearer What do you find What do you see I am your body You're looking straight at me Look where we landed Baby take a look around We stand where we're standing We bathe in the sound What do you see when your eyes fall on me My flowers are blooming Under your sea And on and on we'll find our perfect home And on and on we'll find our perfect home And on and on we'll find our perfect home And on and on we'll find our perfect home And on and on we'll find our perfect home And on and on we'll find our perfect home

Fake Arms 06:28
The candles aren't lit yet We just became friends, friends again I drove off my dreams to make you real again I hung my flag high I won't ever forget eating my pride I taste gold on my tongue, see white from my eyes And when I'm asking for your hand But you're coming home instead I'll ask for so much more, never to leave me again If I leave this town for Tenn., I'll see mountains again But if I can't see you, I've lost it all my friend When I'm asking for your hand But you're coming home instead I'll ask for so much more, never to leave me again If I leave this town for Tenn., I'll see mountains again But if I can't see you, I've lost it all my friend When I'm asking for your hand But you're coming home instead I'll ask for so much more, never to leave me again If I leave this town for Tenn., I'll see mountains again But if I can't see you, I've lost it all my friend

about

A year of our lives. Recorded in an abandoned office building in the dead of Wisconsin winter and our home studio in Nashville's sweltering summer.

Disco Naivete
"You probably have high expectations of Foreign Fields after this little piece of text and the comparance with the Grammy-awarded Bon Iver, but I am confident your expectations will be met. I present you: Foreign Fields’ astonishing debut album Anywhere But Where I Am - available as a stream and/or free download below, but you’ll end up ordering a physical copy before you’ve even finished the first play of this beauty."

YVYNYL
"Stumbling upon an album as good as this duo’s debut LP is not the kind of luck that happens every day. Eric Hillman and Brian Holl’s music has the depth of a deep green lake, one you watch through the seasons; from summer swimming to frozen white. The richness here is full and deep, and you should find a good long book and a quiet corner and listen to the entirety of this record over and over with headphones and a pot of hot tea."

Smoke Don't Smoke
"Maybe it’s the rain today that makes this song/album hit so heavy. The rain always does that. But boy am I glad Mark (YVYNYL) stumbled on this, and decided to share. The album plays as a soundtrack for the contemplative wandering soul."

Steam Engine
"From the initial chords of the album opener, "The Lake to the Land," Foreign Fields' album Anywhere But Where I Am oozes a simplicity that is deeply hidden in the talents of the musicians. I wish I could say that I'm being completely objective here, but I can't. For the most part, I am, but I just can't find anything wrong with this album. From start to finish, it truly is brilliance personified. There isn't a weak song on the album."

DIY
"The eventual first work is more complete sounding album than many established acts are capable of coming out with. It recalls the ghostliness, the isolation of Justin Vernon’s first work. But there’s also a hint of genuine skilled musicianship, alongside the occasional, echoing xx-esque guitar line or the stripped back folk workmanship of certain songs that recall Vernon’s Volcano Choir project rather than his solo ilk. Either way, it’s a secret little gem of an album, one that ought to spread its wings and get picked up by a lucky label. Here’s to hoping."
